Larry West's personal journey has seen him own and refine some of the most exceptional and rare natural color diamonds ever discovered, ranging from 1 carat to 5 carat+ diamonds. These jewels shine in intense and vivid shades of pink, green, orange, blue, and fancy red.

HISTORY

Ranging back to the early 1950s, Larry’s father the late Max West started his business as a commodities dealer in the heart of the New York diamond district, he began traveling to many parts of the world – Europe, Africa, South America and Asia looking for sources for the gemstones and metals his customers strongly desired. He shortly transformed into an exclusive diamond distributor, selling accent diamond called melee to the largest jewelry producers of the time. Overtime Max developed many relations with vendors from around the world and even partnered with them, by doing so this helped him learn and understand the ever-evolving market.

Sadly Max passed away at a young age leaving his son Larry with the family business.

LAWRENCE J. WEST

At 21 years of age and no diamond experience, Larry Jay West was determined to continue what his father started. In the early 1970’s Larry establish L.J. West Diamonds, Inc. He made the decision to venture away from the melee business that his father started and began consolidating his inventory into higher value diamonds. However, with such a small inventory, it was difficult to compete with the larger diamond houses at that time. So he decided to dedicate himself to unlocking the highest value of any diamond he was able to purchase. After much research and study within the diamond industry he discovered he could do this by re-polishing diamonds in order to maximize their characteristics. Fixing shapes, improving color, diminishing internal imperfections were just some of the ways he added value to the stones with these skills. Larry’s attraction to natural color diamonds is much like his attraction to life, every diamond has its own character, its own flaws and its own beauty.

L.J. West Diamonds, Inc. is one of the earliest authorized partners of Argyle Pink Diamonds, dating back to the late 1980’s as Larry West began to build his collection of argyle pink diamonds and exhibiting them at trade shows around the world. Today L.J. West Diamonds has one of the largest collections of argyle pink diamonds in the world and the largest collection in USA and is one of the leading experts in value and rare Argyle pink diamonds having own some of the most recognizable diamonds to have been part of the mines annual Argyle tender.
